New Letters 6-23-06...Scroll Down! NEWEST ONES ON TOP OF PAGE This is our hero. His name is Devon Gibbons and he is a True Hero. He is 19 years old and was on the front lines in Iraq for two weeks when his Bradley was blown up by an IED. He is the son of Bonnie and Mel Gibbons of Port Orchards, WA. He has been critically wounded in battle with the extremist Muslim Terrorists in Iraq on the 11th of April, 2006. He knowingly and willingly enlisted to do all he could to protect us from the terrorists, and to keep them from coming here again, (911) and hurting those he loves. His vehicle split in two when the missile exploded.. He was burned over 90% of his body, his back broke, both his legs removed, and he is now critical and will need to have many skin graphs and much prayer in order to make it. All the others, (3) in his vehicle died. Please pray for him, (for comfort, strength, encouragement, peace, and a determined spirit), and for his family, and for the families and friends of the brave fallen warriors who were with him. Devon's family are Bonnie, Mel, Ryan, David, Andrew, Adam and Jake. Please send any prayers, pictures, thoughts, or words of comfort and support to devonsourhero@wethegibbons.org. I will post them for Devon and his family and friends.

From a Soldier/Wife of B-Troop Soldier: 6-22-06
Devon, I have kept up with your progress and condition
since the day my husband told me what happened. I am pleased that
you are making such leaps and bounds with your recovery process. I am
married to SSG Pitts. He is in SFC Hale's platoon in B Trp.
There are certain things that I don't ask my husband when we have the
opportunity to talk - mostly because I don't want him to think anything
negative while he is in Iraq. So, I carefully have been avoiding the
subject of you for some time now because I didn't want to upset him.
Shaun lost his best friend last June to an IED - so this is a delicate
subject for him. I know that you didn't know each other well, but
that doesn't change the effect this has had on him or any soldier in that
unit. They all love you and miss you Devon. I finally had the
courage to ask him if he was keeping up with your condition. He said
yes...all of B Trp is keeping up with your condition and they all pray for
you daily.
I wanted you to know that your brothers in B Trp are with you always. You are with them on every mission, every patrol, and every guard duty, every day. You are the guardian angel that keeps them safe. They keep a spot on the bulletin board in the TOC at Camp Taji especially for updates about you ( so that all of B trp can see how you're doing). I told Shaun to let everyone know that you were promoted and received a Stetson from the 1SG there. Shaun is jealous - he doesn't have a Stetson yet! They are all very proud of you Devon. As with any soldier still in Iraq - thinking of what can happen to you or your soldiers will only drive you crazy. Thinking of what has already happened will make you angry. So some of the guys in your unit don't want to know the details of your recovery (It's hard to hear)- just that you are getting better and their prayers are working. I am happy to report to Shaun the progress you are making so that he can share it with the guys as well. I am a soldier myself. I spent a year in Iraq and Kuwait already. Shaun was there during that year too - he proposed to me at BIAP (Baghdad International Airport) in July of 2003. We are married now and have a little girl that is 7 months old. She would make you smile and I would love for you to meet her one day. She looks just like her Daddy! I am proud of you Devon. You have been so strong and such an inspiration to your fellow soldiers. Keep up the good work. All of B Trp, 7-10 CAV is pulling for you. We love you and continue to pray for you daily. SSG Nicole M. Pitts - proud wife of a B Trp

Letter From the Bolechala's: 6-22-06 Dear Bonnie, Mel, Devon and family,
I have
been meaning to write so many times and just not sure what to say.
Most importantly I want you all to know that you are in Kim's and my
prayers daily. When this first happened Kim and I had to go out of
town, when I asked Kiona how you all were she told me of the web site and
said to take a box of Kleenex with me. I realized that it was one
that I had to read at home and not at work and she was right about the
Kleenex. I look on the website almost every day, and of course when you
skip a day then I am concerned and say extra prayers. Bonnie I have
no idea what you must be going through, but I saw some of the new pictures
of you and the family and you know you look pretty darn good. So
just so you know from the outside you still look the same. I'm sure
you must be a mess on the inside. I was also glad to hear that Kathy
came down to see you. that must have been nice.. if you and Mel are
anything like Kim and I and most couples, you always try to stay strong
for each other. Hopefully having Kathy there you got a chance to
fall apart a little. Sometimes you just need that, so you can keep
going.
I'm glad
that you have such wonderful care and support there, and know that we all
(your ward family) love you and think and pray for you always.
God speed. Patti and
Kim Bolechala
Letter From Russ Higley: 6-22-06 Dear Devon: I have been putting off writing to you because I wanted to put some thought in to what to say I apologize for my slow response. I know that you are passing through your Gethsemane with a refining fire. But, gold will come out in the end. I have walked a few of the paths that you are walking thorough in the course of my existence. Be of good cheer for the time of your trial will be but as a moment and will be for your benefit. Our great warrior savor will walk and carry you through the trial that will be fall you. Keep the warrior spirit that you have and never give up on your self. I always like what Edgar Rice Burroughs had to say about the matter what does not kill us makes us stronger. I am sure that you are a wonderful inspiration to all of the people who come into contact will you. I look forward to the day that you come to my class and talk to them about your experiences. Live long and smile Russ Higley Letter From the Frei's, (Aarons New In-Laws): 6-22-06 Devon We have asked the Lord to continue blessing you As we prayed for you today To guide you and protect you As you go along your way His love is always with you His promises are true And when we give Him all our cares You know He will see us through So when the road you're traveling on Seems difficult at best Just remember we’re here praying for you And GOD WILL DO THE REST. Your cousin Aaron and our daughter Chanelle just got back from their honeymoon. Tues night our family meet up to watch the video of the their beautiful wedding. We all hope to get copies soon but you are at the top of that list to receive one of the CD's. I just know you will enjoy seeing your Cousins, Aunts and Uncles. I know they missed you and your family sooo very much, as well as our family. You
have one of the most wonderful families, although we are only in the
very beginning stages bridging our families together. God and Family

Letter From Jo Gideon: 6-21-06 You know, when I
met Bonnie and Mel and they were starting their family, I knew that
they were something special. Then I lost track of them even though
we lived in same small community. I didn't know the children except
seeing them occasionally. But I could still tell that they were
really a celestial family..
When I heard
the name of the radio and the injuries sustained by Devon, my heart
sank...
Hearing of
this wonderful families rallying together to help Devon fight this fight
of his life, is so inspiring. My hopes and prayers are always with
you all. Thank heavens for the miracles that have occurred for
Dev.
Devon, keep
fighting. You are inspiring thousands of people and bringing more to
our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. In fact, your Mom and
Dad and brothers are helping bring more to Them by the incredible faith
and prayers.
Thank you all
from the bottom of my heart..I love you.

Letter From Friends in Tennessee: 6-21-06 (condensed) ...I wanted to tell you that we follow your
updates all the time, and I share them with my friends here in TN. I
laugh, and I cry as I read about all of you. I am most touched I
think by the sweet enduring love that your
parents share. You are such amazing people. We live
in Clarksville, TN home of the 101at Airborne. In our ward here,
there are many many families doing without their husbands, sons, and
fathers. I watch these families in reverence and with
thanksgiving. My family is truly safer because of heroes like you
Devon, and of course the heroes of the 101st. They are never far
from my thoughts and prayers. You continue to astound me, as I know
you do your doctors, nurses, and parents. Stay the course; I know
that our Heavenly Father must be saying, "Well done thou good and faithful
servant." My God be with you and continue to bless you during this
most difficult time.
Love the Orts (Suzan, Tony, Rebekah, Isaiah, Michaelah, and Emmah) Letter From the Wilson's: 6-21-06 Dear Devon, Mel and Bonnie: Hermie and I
had a our quiet time this morning, and again, you all were lifted up in
prayer.
As you know, the power of prayer is beyond our
human comprehension. We know that you are in God's mighty hands,
Devon, and we know He will be with you through all the pain that you're
enduring right now. But, just as the Lord told Paul in his
affliction, "My grace is sufficient", we know, Devon, that God will give
you a full measure of His grace because He loves you so much. Mel
& Bonnie, we are also still praying for you guys, asking the Lord to
give you strength and good health each day. Devon, one of our
favorite verses in the Bible is found in Isaiah 41:10 It says: "Fear
not, for I am with you, be not dismayed; for am thy God: I will strengthen
you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of
my righteousness." So, Devon, please keep your eyes on the
Lord, and know that we still pray for you daily. May God shower each
of you with His grace, mercy and love today and all the days ahead.
Peace be with you.
We love you guys!
Barry and Hermie Wilson
Letter From Cami: 6-20-06 Devon and Family, I was never brought up in a religious household. I
was never told which form of God or the Bible to believe in, and until
April, I didn't believe in it at all, really. I turned 17 years old 6 days
before the attack and I had been worried for Devon since the day
he left. Every time I watched the news I held my breath, hoping they
wouldn't say his name. And then it happened, and my heart broke. I kept
hoping and hoping that he would be okay, that the sweet Devon I knew would
make it through. But as the medical miracles kept taking place I realized
it wasn't hope that was getting Devon through his battle, it was his and
God's strength together. Even with the advanced medical technology we have
these days I know that there is something more, something much bigger
behind Devon's strength. God has a plan for Devon, for all of us. Devon's
strength has made me a believer in the Lord, in his strength and his paths
for all of us. I am so thankful of Devon's strength, his heart, his soul.
I love Dev so very very much, and I know God does too. The
whole Gibbons family are in my prayers a hundred times a day and
always will be. Thank you so much for being so strong. Letter From Satira: 6-20-06 Devon,
Miracles are everywhere. You are one! Keep up your
faith and stay strong. You are doing so well. I can't wait till Fitz and I
can come visit you. It won't be too long and I know I have to keep a close
eye on you two! I can only imagine the trouble you two guys can get into
together. But I am up to it! Get better while I work on getting him back
home and we will figure it all out! It's a date!!!
Also, keep smiling and giving those nurses a hard
time! Gotta keep them on their toes We are praying and pulling for you! You are
amazing and I know your going to be just fine. I am forwarding a story to
you that made me think of you, (Click Here!). God is always doing something we
do not have the ability to understand. We just have to take his hand and
hold on for the ride! Get better! So much love Devon!

Letter From Syndie: 6-19-06 Hello, my name is Syndie and I emailed a few weeks ago to let you know that we prepared quilt for Devon and his family. Our small quilt group will be meeting tomorrow
to work on the quilt to get it finished and ready for mailing.
I will not be there as I am the only one who is not yet retired and have
to work. I have asked that special and strong prayer be done while
this quilt is being prepared for Devon and his family.
I log onto the website most days to see how
Devon is doing. I am so inspired by the loving hand of God that has
held onto him. thank you for taking the time to let me know his
daily struggles and progression. The healing wings of angels are
covering Devon and I hope and pray that I will be privileged to meet him,
to walk up, touch him and feel blessed by that event.
We hear of miracles and I feel Devon is one of
them. Please tell him that we love him, admire him, pray for him to
be free of pain and worry. I know that our part now is prayer and
some day all reason will materialize.
A faithful Port Orchard friend/sister in

Letter From the Murray's: 6-19-06 Dear Gibbons Family:
I don't know if you remember us, David and
Carolyn Murray, but we remember your family. Especially your first
and second born boys. (I was always very fond of little David, I
think it was his gravelly voice). Anyway, we are back here in the
area and found out about Devon from Doug and Velda Reed. I want you
all to know how much this community cares about Devon. There are
signs up that say "Devon Gibbons, our hero" There is another
quilt being made for him by the quilt guild. And I am sure many
other projects that I know nothing about.. Our oldest son, Bill
served in Desert Storm and came home very sick. He is better now and
has completed a college degree, has a lovely family and is now employed at
the Ship Yard. I know with all the prayer and love being sent
Devon's way that he too will make a great recovery. Please let him
know that although we have never met him, we pray for him in our family
prayers every day. I know God will bless him and use him for a great
purpose.
We think of you all often and wish you the
best.
Yours,
David and Carolyn Murray
Letter From Tall Firs Lane: 6-19-06 Hi Devon:
Your neighbors here on Tall Firs Lane
from Port Orchard are sending a Hello and prayers for healing.
All is well here... well the weather has been sorta crummy, but hey... it
is Washington! It's the end of the school year and Jesse and
Amanda... as I'm sure Adam is too... are looking forward to getting summer
started and away from all the school work. We read up on your
recovery every day. We are amazed and so proud of you. I was
at Cedar Heights recently and there is a large banner "Devon... You're our
Hero!" It will come your way soon I imagine. Bring tears to my
eyes to see how the community has really come together to wish you the
very best. It's nice living in a small community and realizing how close
all of us really are. Devon, your recovery is amazing. Stay
strong! We pray for you daily and look forward to seeing you someday
soon. Take care. We love you.
Duane, Brenda, Jesse and Amanda DeBock
Letter From the Brown's: 6-19-06 Dear Devon,
The tears come easily when we think of
you. Tears of anguish for your pain. Tears of hope
as you hold your own against those terrible wounds. Tears
of gratitude for the courageous heart of the
American Patriot that beats in your chest. Tears of admiration
for your Mom and Dad and your brothers for the rock of their faith
and their unyielding love for you.
We treasure the times that we've had together,
Devon. We'll do it again sometime soon, okay? You just say the
word.
You're in our daily prayers, dear friend. God
bless and keep you.
With all our love,

Letter From Friends: 6-18-06 Dear Family ~ Devon ~ Thank you for all you have done for us! Really. The sacrifice that you have made for our country, our family ~ our FREEDOM, words will never be able to express our appreciation! Your a true soldier through and through. You are made from good stock! I don't know if you remember me, but I remember you and have watched you boys grow up, long distance. You are in our thoughts and prayers here in Othello, Washington. Mel and Bonnie, my heart ached for ALL of you when I heard the news. Betty called to tell me and it wasn't until recently that I knew how to contact you. Your strength is undaunted! I have learned so much from you since we met. I don't get to keep in touch as often as I want, but the friendship, I hold dear. Bonnie, I have asked myself many times since becoming the instant mom to 3 boys, 'how would Bonnie handle this?'. There is a special love between a mom and her son. I am grateful to have been able to watch you and learn from you before my 3 boys came to me. I know that I am a better mom because of your example. Katie and Emily send their love and want you to know they are also praying for you. They remember Devon and Adam and how they were so nice to them. You have raised very loving and caring boys! We loved reading the story of Jacob with the picture of his map. We love that guy and think of him often too. You are in our prayers ~ Love, Kristin (Hansen) Gearheart and family Letter From Steve Hay: 6-17-06 Hi Devon, Mel and Bonnie, I only recently learned about your trials, and I
must say I was sick. I don't know you Devon, but I know your
Dad. He is a very special guy. As we go through life people
come and go and are often forgotten. Not so with Mel, he is one of
those rare people that you cross paths with that leave a lasting
impression. As I keep up with your progress the one thing that keeps
coming to mind is this, the support of family and trust in the Lord are
the most important things to have. I am confident that the
dedication of your family and your dad will make a huge difference in your
recovery and the next chapter in your life. God has a plan for
us, we don't usually know what it is before hand (probably because he
knows we would screw it up) stay close to Him and He will let you
know.
Bonnie, we were supposed to have dinner
the last time I was out there, but they made Mel and I work until
10:00. I was very disappointed and hope we have another
opportunity.
I pray for Devon and you guys regularly
and have many at church praying as well. Please let me know if
there is anything I can do.
Mel Christ shines through you like a beacon,
after reading the updates I now know where that great outlook comes
from. I am a Christian who stumbles a bit and because of
what I see in you I am inspired to get my walk on a more even keel.
Devon, thank you for your unselfish sacrifice
that we (I) might live in the greatest country there is.
Its been said many times and you may not think so but you truly are a
hero.
God Bless,
Steve Hay
Happy Fathers day Mel, you are truly a great
one.
Letter From Danie: 6-17-06 Dear Devon,
You don’t know me but I'm surrounded by people
you went to school with and some your family goes to church with. I'm sure
you get tons of emails probably saying the same thing I'm going to but
that's ok.
You have been in my prayers since I heard of
your accident. I love reading your updates that your
family post on your website. I try and read it once a week or so and every
time it reminds me of how important our families are to us. You are so
strong and I believe God has you here for a reason. There may come a
time when you question "why you", when that time comes know
this, there is someone out there who's life has changed because of
your story and because of you!! My family went through something
similar around 12 years ago and we still happen to come across someone
every now and then who tell us of how our situation affected their life.
Continue to stay strong and know that so many people are praying for you
and your family.
Sincerely,
Danie Christensen
Letter From Lisa: 6-16-06 I found a link to you on Kingwoodyardsale.com, of all places! Dude! I don't even know what to say. What you have sacrificed to be over there is more than I could ever fathom. I can't imagine the sand in places sand don't go, much less getting shot at and ____. I will think of you at that time right before I go to sleep, you know the one! My humble prayers are with you and your family, and all the guys just like you who are probably thinking, WHAT THE _____! My heart is with you now,
Lisa
Letter From Jamie's Mom: 6-16-06 Dear Devon, Letter From a Supporter From Texas: 6-16-06 HI,
My husband was burned over 25% of his body
(chest, back, neck shoulders and both hands and arms) on Christmas
day. I know what you are talking about when you mention wound care
and the special shower. Oh the pain they go through with those things
and therapy.
I am following your journal to see his progress
and to pray for all of you. This is such a long process and involves
all who love him. He is a very courageous young man with a lot of
determination and a very strong will to live. He is very lucky to
have such a loving family to support him. He will do so well when he
is released too because he has that support. The biggest gift he has
is God is on his side.
Thank you so much for instilling such faith in
him that he knows Who will heal him.
Thank you for letting us all know how he
progresses. It surely is a miracle every day to see the changes in
his appearance and the technology that keeps everything going.
Prayerfully in His name.

Letter From a Family Friend: 6-16-06 Dear Bonnie, Mel and family,
Like so many others, I frequently check your website and was so thrilled with the June 13 progress. What a miracle the Lord is orchestrating with the gradual healing of Devon's body. I thought of Devon the other day while in the halls of South Kitsap High School when the morning's Pledge of Allegiance came over the intercom. I was standing at the end of a hallway and several student stragglers hadn't yet made it into their first hour's classrooms. Although no flag was visible in the hallways, when the Pledge began all scurrying students stopped dead in their tracks while the pledge was given. It was as though I were watching a video and someone pushed the "pause" button. As soon as "with liberty and justice for all." was heard, the racing to class continued. I was impressed with the demonstration of respect shown. Devon's sacrifice for freedom has helped me feel a greater depth of appreciation and humility when I stand for the flag salute now. The
other day while subbing in an English class, we read a poem from the lit
book written by a disenchanted soldier. The
poem ended with the line (paraphrased), "It's a lie to say
there's honor in giving your life for your country."
When we finished reading I told the class, "Now you need to hear a
different view." Then I spoke of a Port Orchard soldier,
severely wounded while serving in Iraq, his dad at his bedside at a burn
center in Texas, reciting to him the Soldier's Creed. The broken
soldier's lips mouthing some of the words: "I am an American
Soldier. . I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life. . . I
will always place the mission first. I will never quit. . . I
AM AN AMERICAN SOLDIER."
The class was sober and
silent. One student softly asked, "Are you talking about
Devon?" I said "Yes. And he and his family -and thousands of
patriots like them- love this land and understand the price freedom
costs."
You are
always in our prayers. We love and miss you guys.

Letter From Tami: 6-15-06 You don’t know me. I live in the Port Orchard area. I just wanted to send my thoughts and let you know that people all over the place are praying for Devon even though we don’t know him personally. I saw a sign on a gas station reader board the other day in Port Orchard that said “Pray for Devon, a true Hero.” He certainly is a hero, and I am so grateful for people like him who protect the rest of us in the USA. Congratulations on raising such a good person. Tami Baker Letter From Bo: 6-15-06 God Bless you Devon.

Letter From Emmett Godsey: 6-15-06 God’s grace and mercy truly is an awesome thing. When we see the progress being made, it is wondrous and marvelous. It still amazes me how anyone could deny the existence of a loving Heavenly Father who through His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, offers eternal life with Him. “Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love…---Joel 2:13 Best Regards, Jerry Emmett Godsey Letter From Lisa Hansen: 6-14-06 Dear Devon, I know you don't know me, but I know your folks
and they are pretty much the best parents anyone could ever have and I
know they love you and will love you through this trial. You can
lean on their faith until yours is sufficient to know that your Heavenly
Father has a plan for you and that your mission here on earth has not been
concluded. There are so many of us praying for you every day.
Hang in there and know that you're loved...I mean, REALLY loved! Mel
and Bonnie, you are such an example for the rest of us! Thank you
for your faith in the Father's will and His perfect Plan. I love you
so very much!! And, by the way, you're both very photogenic...you
look great!!
If I could hug ya, I would!

Letter From Devon's Uncle: 6-14-06 Hey Devon, Just want you to know how proud we all are of you. Sometimes the words are hard to find when trying to express how we feel at a time like this. We feel pride in what you have done, (and what you risked all to do). Amazement at your strength, joy when we hear of your physical victories, and pain when you struggle with challenges. We are anxious at times if we don't hear anything for a couple days. We are comforted when our Father in Heaven gives us a glimpse of "His Great Love for you" while we are praying. We shed tears when we tell others of you, as our hearts burst with pride. The Lord loves you so much...it is amazing to our natural minds, but we understand it somehow in our hearts. It is from Him. He has been pleased to put you on thousands of peoples hearts, and has initiated a special connection with you, for many others. Jesus said..."I have come that you might have life...and have it more abundantly..." Don't doubt it for a second Devon. We all, who are pulling for you, know in our hearts that He has something wonderful and fulfilling for you in your life. Don't ask us how we know. We couldn't tell you. But we look forward to seeing it unfold. Many times in life, the Lord asks us to "do our best", and promises that, "He, will do the rest". Just "do everything you can do", (which is considerably more than what most of us could do), and trust our Father in Heaven with the rest. I'm so looking forward to seeing you soon, so keep up the good work, and keep fighting hard. I Love you Devon, Uncle Dan Letter From Mechelle: 6-14-06 We are so thrilled to hear such great news today!! Devon, you are simply amazing! Your entire family is such an inspiration to everyone. Keep that fighting and positive spirit! We love you! Mechelle & Jeremy

Letter From Jurema: 6-13-06 This is for Devon and family: You are being prayed for and we know that
Jesus is right there by your side. Reading the newest update by Dad
Mel Gibbons brought joy to our hearts hearing that Devon is actually
talking, that is great stuff:-))) and also about the new type mattress
Devon is getting. Every little bit helps, keep up the good work.
Wonder if Devon can see cards and pictures etc. Have his eyes been
unstitched? There is a reason for asking . The Lord bless you and keep
you,

Letter From Stephen in Ireland: 6-11-06 Hi Bonnie Mel & Family, I have been reading about Devon on your website.
It brought home to me the great price your son and many families like
yours and others are paying to try and bring democracy to Iraq. I am not a
religious person but I do pray for your son's recovery and hope he can
lead a fairly comfortable and happy life afterwards. Its a measure of your
love for him and what a great family you are to him that you can stay with
him and comfort him. I thank you for sharing your ordeal with me and hope
to be of any help I can in terms of sending a contribution to
his medical bills or other expenses you may be incurring
over being away from home in Texas. I won't say I agree with the war
because I don't - I think it should never have happened. But I do admire
all those brave young people like your sons who go and serve
their country to the best of their ability.
Please don't let this difficult period get you
down too much - I am sure there will be brighter days ahead again for
Devon and yourselves.
Yours Faithfully
Stephen Flaherty

Devon, I check your update every day and start my daily
phone calls to Tennessee and Florida to let my family know all of your
updates. When I read you are showing improvement. I first have
to Thank Heavenly Father.
The other night I was not feeling well and
couldn't sleep so I turned on the TV and became so excited to hear of your
promotion. Congratulations! If any soldier deserves it you
do. You sure have a huge battle to go through. But I have
faith in Heavenly Father and He is right there with you. taking
every step you are taking. Devon When I think of the poem Footprints
in the Sand I think so much of you. Your faith in Jesus Christ and
our Heavenly Father, I know he is right there by your side. Carrying you
when you need it.
I pray every day for your comrades still serving
in Iraq and even all over the world. Devon, I have prayed for
a long time and yet often didn't pray on a daily basis. I never lost
Faith in my heavenly Father but sometimes I felt my prayers were not being
answered. But knowing the miracles with my nephew and the miracles
with you. They were only miracles because of the faith people such
as you, your mom and dad, family, friends had in our Heavenly
Father. Same with my nephew it was faith in Heavenly Father that he
planned for the right people to be at the right place at the right
time. I thank him every day for that. Devon we have never met
but I find it so easier to wake up every morning and pray. I find it
easier to fast. I find it easier to pray through out the day.
For that I want to say thank you so much! So many people have been
touched by your life far more than you could ever imagine.
Bonnie and Mel Thank you so much for the
updates. You just can't imagine how much it means to people and even
strangers. Thank you for all the Love and Support you are giving to
Devon and his brothers and even the families of other soldiers who are
recovering.
Jacob You are a awesome little
brother. You will have Devon on that plane to see his dog and
kitty. I am sure they miss you too.
David Thank you so much for your service to our
great country. Thank you so much for all the love and support you
have for Devon. If you ever have to deploy. My family and I would
love to make that deployment a little better with packages and mail from
the great northwest.
Ryan and Andrew You are such
wonderful brothers and the sacrifices you both are making to be there for
Devon and the family. All of you are in our prayers and even though
we are in Stanwood. Let us know if there is anything we can do for you.

Letter From a Soldiers Parents: 6-10-06 Dear Mel and Bonnie, Our hearts and prayers
are with you! You have a very strong son to survive and improve so
much in 8 weeks. Our son, Dan Boesch, is also a Cav. Scout from Ft.
Hood with the 4th ID and patrols the area around Taji. He is based
at Camp Taji. I don't know if he knows your son, but I would guess
he might. They all consider each other brothers,
anyway.
We will continue to
pray for your son. Tell him two things: 1. about the
time he was hurt, my son was on patrol and has been recommended for a
medal because he located and captured an insurgent hiding in a
field. I don't know if it was the incident when Devon was hurt, but
the time period is about right. 2. when he gets his new legs,
there will be a new pair of Cav. spurs from us for him to wear.
We have some frequent
flier miles that my husband deals with and will donate them. God
Bless you all!! Hooo-Yah!

love, your brother jason Letter From Devon's Aunt in Idaho: 6-7-06 Dear Devon, Mel, Bonnie and all the boys, First let me say how much I love and miss you all and
wish that I was there by your side to love and comfort you. Today as I was
just thinking of all that is going on I really embraced all that Devon has
sacrificed again. And I thank the Lord that He constantly is reminding me
of that. This weekend is so special for us as you know, Aaron and Chanelle
are getting married. And the reason that they can have such a joyous
occasion is because of true heroes like you Devon. That we are free to
enjoy everything that we have and can do is so overwhelming to me at
times, now that I really understand what all these men and
women like you have done, and are still doing for us. When I see them
in uniform I just have to tell them thank you for what you are doing. And
again Devon thank you for what you have done and still are doing for
us. Our lives are forever indebted to you and your fellow brothers.
Mel and Bonnie, thank you for being the unselfish
parents that you are, and encouraging Devon and David to go and stand for
all that they believe in. Mel your time in the military does not go
unnoticed by me either. You are a hero to me and you are a great
example to your boys. Thank you for all your time and sacrifice for our
freedom. Bonnie you have been an encourager and a strength to your family
that only a mother can be and I am truly blessed by your love and heart of
gold! My heart is so full of love and gratitude for all of you.
The love and strength that we all have and the many
blessings come from the Lord. I've been singing this song a lot lately and
I want to share the words, I hope that it strengthens and encourages
you:
God will make a way
where there seems to be no way.
He works in ways we cannot see,
He will make a way for me.
He will be my guide,
Hold me closely to His side.
With love and strength for each new day,
He will make a way, He will make a way.
I am constantly praying for you all and love you so
much.

Letter From Mama Joy: 6-7-06 Hello Devon and Family, My son Brandon Pratt wanted me to send his well wishes to Devon, as he does not have email access while in Tech school. He has also informed us that he to may soon be sent to Iraq. Your family's strength and courage through all of this, gives me strength to endure the unknown for my son. Please know that while we may not know each other, you have our love, support and prayers each and everyday. Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Joy Pratt Stanford Letter From Pam: 6-6-06 I will continue to check the site for Devon and hope to be reading good news soon. My heart is with you and your family. Having had a son in Iraq for two tours of heavy combat I am still learning to live without fear. Please pass on to Devon and his family how grateful we are for his service and how proud and honored this country is to have him and men like him to protect us. We are truly the "Land of the free because of the brave". God Bless, Pam Letter and Prayer From Supporters: 6-6-06 I received this email from a lady in our area. We have posted info about Devon on a local web site, asking for prayers on his behalf. This sweet lady emailed me and asked for Devon's name and branch of service for her prayer group so that they could pray for him by name. The faith of Devon's family and all those that have prayed for them are amazing, I know that is a major part of helping Devon through all that he is dealing with. The Hohnekes
Dear Heavenly Father, Letter From Tressa's Mom: 6-6-06 Tressa's mom here! I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you two, but after reading all your updates, I feel like I know you, and you two are amazing parents! I met Devon one day when he and Mississippi and
a bunch of the guys came over to our house to see Tressa and her
friend Marquita.
Devon walked in with this beautiful smile
on his face, nicely dressed, always wearing a collared shirt, and
he came right up to me, and introduced himself, probably even shook
my hand. He was so polite, confident, drop dead gorgeous, I was
totally impressed by Devon. (I got a kick out of the letter that
said he wasn't cocky, he was confident, that is so right! Maybe
a little cocky, but that's ok).
The guys used to hang out now and then,
eat, watch movies, etc....
You have raised such a great kid, you two
deserve metals for being the parents that you are.
Devon
I remember the day, Devon, when
you came up to me when I was at South, all excited that you had
just joined the Army, my reaction wasn't so good, I said something like, "
Oh no, can you get out of it, does your mom know?" Not even knowing
your mom, but thinking like a mom.
I now have so much more of an understanding
about why you wanted to join, and what fighting for this
country is all about. The letters you are receiving from other warriors,
love and prayers coming in from all over the country is really amazing and
has been quite an education for me.
I just want to say, that when you come home,
there are going to be some serious celebrations for you! Everyone is
praying for you, so just keep fighting to survive and thrive! We miss you
and cant wait for you to come home. You will again be confident and that
confidence with your personality will get you places, and
your winning smile that literally lights up a room. I can even see
you doing speaking engagements about your ordeal and this war
and/or the power of prayer, whatever God leads you to. I can
even see you talking about all this on Good Morning America or maybe
even Oprah, you never know....You are an American Hero...
With Love and daily prayers, Wendy Zukowski Letter From Hometown Supporters: 6-6-06 Dear Devon and Family, Our prayers are always with you. We are in awe of what you , Devon, and the troops are and have done for us and our freedom. A word of encouragement that you all know is that God is always there with us. One of God’s Names is Jehovah Shammah – God is there. Waiting is one of the hardest things to do and yet we know God is in control . We pray for encouragement for all of you and God’s wisdom for the doctors and Devon’s comfort and for Bonnie and Mel’s Peace that passes all understanding. More prayers, Larry and Jeri – Port Orchard Letter From a Canadian Mom: 6-6-06 I look at every new installment of Fans of Devon
web site. I follow Devon's progress as if he were my son. I
pray every day and have a huge prayer chain formed across Alberta for
Devon. I am the Canadian Mom of a US Naval Petty Officer Second
Class. Today along with celebrating my son's return from duty overseas we
remember that your son was not lucky enough to come home unscathed as ours
was. Somehow I kind of feel guilty but I know I should not. I
realize that only God knows what is to happen and why. I still thank
him for returning my son in the same physical condition he left in. As I
wrap my arms around my son when he makes it home (to our home) later this
month I will also be hugging Devon. It was my son that sent me the
web site. I will be hugging him and thinking of the day that Devon
returns to your home and you wrap your arms around him in your welcoming
embrace. I know there are moments that you wonder just how you will go on.
From where you will find the strength? I am sure you will find it in
God's love for your family and Devon as well as in the love he has given
you for your son. I will continue to follow Devon's progress and pray for
him and your entire family. I truly hope it is God's will that he
return to you quickly. Next time you hug Devon let him know that there is
a world not just a country that is also hugging him, at least spiritually
and he is thought of and loved by more people than he could ever imagine.
Letter From Jeremy's Mom: 6-6-06 Hi Devon, Mel and Bonnie, Just wanted to let you know we are all still
here and maintaining our support and thoughts and prayers....trying to
send them your way! You are forever on our minds and in our
hearts.
Seriously, we all do love you and pray for you
all. Again, don't hesitate to call if we can do anything.

Letter From the Kennedy's: 6-5-06 Hi Mel & Bonnie (and family), I know this time of waiting is exhausting for you all...a lot of long and quiet hours. We hope that you feel the prayers of those who care for you and Devon supporting you in those moments!! We trust that the Lord sees down the road ahead of Devon and has a perfect plan for him, but also appreciate the tremendous amount of stress this is on you all. Thank you for sharing regularly what is going on...we are following those updates and praying for specific needs and healing. Kitsap county is FULL of support for your family ~ It's really neat to see! Dave & Deb Kennedy (and family) Note From Karla: 6-5-06 I/We don't have anything profound to say.

feel a warm embrace know that it came from me.

Letter From Lori in Oregon: 6-5-06 My name is Lori and I live in Medford, OR. I have been reading your updates on Devon daily, and even though we do not know each other, I have your family in my thoughts and prayers each and every day. I remember hearing about the tragedy that struck Devon and his fellow comrades as we receive headline news from Portland and Seattle.
My thoughts and prayers are with you, Devon and all of your family – Lori Note From a Supporter: 6-5-06 I know what many guys like Devon would say to us if they had the chance. I have heard it in their voices, and I have seen it in their faces. They would say..."We, (the warriors) do what we do, so that you, our families, friends, loved ones and fellow Americans, can live your lives the way you should be able to live them... Free of fear and terrorists. Free to choose to live your lives the way you want, (as long as it does not infringe on others liberties). We fight because if we don't, who will stop the madmen of the world from terrorizing and oppressing the weak and innocent. We fight because we believe with all our hearts that what we have here in America is worth protecting. That it is to be treasured and that it is to be preserved. And so some among us, with heart, with courage and with strong wills, must step up. and take the line" Devon, (and all you Armed Forces Warriors), May God Bless and Keep you. May He give you the strength you need when you need it. May He multiply blessings upon you for the great, (and usually unsung) sacrifices most of you are making or have made. We see it, and we appreciate it, and we have your backs here in America. A grateful citizen Letter From the Harmons: 6-4-06 Dear Bonnie and Mel, If I could, I would take your place. If only for
a hour or two so you might truly rest.
I can't image your state of mind at this time,
but I know Our Heavenly Father has both you and Devon in His arms.
Are prayers are for Devon and you both daily.
Please tell Devon to continue his fight, complete his mission and return
to us here at home in Port Orchard.
Brother/Sister Harmon and the boys.
Letter From the Creaghs in Spokane WA: 6-3-06 Dear Friends, I get an anxious feeling when I begin to check on Devon. You cannot know how privileged we feel being included in the updates. As busy as life may get for us, we are NEVER too busy to hear of "Devon's Day". Thank you for keeping us posted, even when the news is hard to take and causes us to stop, hold our breath and re-read the words. Our wonder right now is how do you folks do this? (yet we KNOW the answer) Dick and I are amazed of your strength and feel somewhat guilty that our life is going on as it is. You need to know that not only is Devon in our prayers but you both are as well. We were warmed when Mel indicated that one of Devon's doctors was from this area and then remembered Mel was raised for a time here in Spokane as well. Certainly long before we ever moved here but still the same, it gave us that reconnected feeling with you and your family. We love you both and just hope you can remain vigilant at the bedside and can feel and know of our Father's great love for you. I'm sure I don't need to remind you that you will not have to suffer or endure anything that you have not been prepared for. One last thought: WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE! Devon being at the top of the list for sure. The Creaghs in Spokane |
